Easin' Into Green

'Going green', 'Recycle', 'Reuse', Reduce'.
There are a lot of buzz words aimed at encouraging environmental responsibility. Over several years we've gradually incorporated these ideas into our home.

One More Time
Recycling paper, glass and cans was our first step. Our city made it easy for us, providing the containers and curbside pick up.

Win Some Lose Some
In grade school my kids each got cute re-useable lunch bags. After three lost lunch bags, we reverted to paper bags for my son, but my daughter still uses her original bag.

Light My Life
In sixth grade my son joined SEE, Students for Energy Education. He loved being part of this group. We all learned a lot, including the idea of replacing regular light bulbs with CFL's , Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs, to help reduce our energy consumption.

Steppin' Out
My daughter just bought these shoes, made from vegan and recycled materials.

Earth Day is coming. Any plans? I'd love to hear them.

Recycled shoes? And they're really cute! I saw an add, in Bed Bath & Beyond flyer I think, for welcome mats made out of recycled flip flop pieces, or maybe what was left over from making the flip flops. I do my part by composting, hanging out my laundry, using my own bags at stores and all the regular things you're doing. Every little bit helps.

I love hanging my laundry outside to dry. Makes it smell so fresh.

I wish we had curbside pickup. I run all over town, since the city doesn't provide enough recycling. Now that DH is working on post (military), I will probably be able to get rid of my glass too!

Great that your kids are learning all about it!

great article! I have those bulbs too!

I feel really fortunate that our recyclables are pick up. It's definitely more work to have to take them to a center.

I miss curbside pickup...we had it where we used to live, but not now. I was taking our recyclables to a center until I was attacked by yellow jackets swarming around the dumpsters. That was the end of that!

I love those lightbulbs... they last forever! I put them in the hard to reach places especially cuz I'm short and it's hard to reach up and in the fixtures!
